It Was Not Imagined

Over the years as one looks back, one can well wonder if events recalled are recalled accurately.

Case in point: I seem to remember a television ad for "Hot Dr. Pepper." Over the years as I have "recalled" this ad, I have not discovered one person who seems to remember hot Dr. Pepper as I did.

Today, I submit proof that my memory is not at all as bad as it seems.

Watch and enjoy. Has anyone ever tried this?

  1. Before I watch the ad ...
I remember Hot Doc with great fondness.
You would drink it with lemon. We drank a lot of it back in the 60'a and 70's.
It doesn't work as well now for two reasons:
    1. Now they use fructose instead of pure cane sugar to make Dr. Pepper. (I have a can of pure cane sugar Dr. Pepper that I purchased at the Dr. Pepper museum in Waco two years ago. I'm tempted to use to make some Hot Doc with all the snow and ice around us this week!)
    2. Since all I drink now is diet soft drinks (like Jerry Clower said: "I'm at the age that I'd rather eat my calories now instead of drink them!"), you cannot heat Diet Dr. Pepper without making the artificial sweetner taste bad. I know ... I tried it back when Diet Dr. Pepper first came out.
Trivia Time is now over. Commit this information to memory ... you may be on "Jeopardy" some day. For a personal anecodote about my grandfather, my mom, me, and Dr. Pepper - go here: www.englandfbc.org/userFiles/405/poppy_and_dr_pepper.pdf
Now ... time to watch the commercial!

  2. Well ... just watched the ad. I got the time frame right ... from the old bottle design, the fashions, and the hairstyles - it looks like the 60's. And I don't care what the announcer said ... Diet Dr. Pepper heated was undrinkable. Regular Dr. Pepper heated was good.
